A thin line put in too light fades to nothing; put in too heavy it blurs outward over the years until the piece reads as a smudge. The window between those two is narrow, and hitting it consistently is the entire skill.

Lines that sit too close together will eventually run into each other as the ink spreads under the skin, so spacing is set for how the piece will look in a decade rather than how tight it can be made today. Where a design is too dense to survive that, you will be told and it will be adapted.

Hands, fingers, feet and the outside of the wrist take constant friction and sun, and fine line work in those spots fades faster and patchier than anywhere else.
